Thanks for an informative interview with a terrific author...I lived in the same community described in Going North (Vernon, AL, the author's early home and my own home for the first years of my own life). Harrington's vivid descriptions depict a bleak period in the Deep South with accuracy. I point to the poignant portrayals in Harrington's flight to a new life when contrasted with the resolve and deep joy reflected by the family members as they arrive in Nebraska.
As others have mentioned, I, too, wish that this author had a web site. Do her publishers forward letters of interest?

Janice:

I want to communicate with you nonpublic. Is that possible? I'll look up your work information again. Maybe I can catch you there. Alot has happened. Are you on the Professional Storytellers Network (www.professionalstoryteller.ning.com)? I'd love to see you there. Congratulations on your published success! Let's connect soon. I miss you much. How's our storytelling friend and colleague doing in Indiana...her name is not coming to me at the moment. She was a librarian at the CPL when I was living in Illinois.

-I wish you continued success, always

Sincerely,

Wow, how do I begin! This book is wonderful. I am a teacher and “live” at my local public library. I asked the children’s librarian for a good new read aloud. She ran straight to The Chicken Chasing Queen of Lamar County. What a great find. It was instantly added to my favorite books. My first grade class is learning about similes, so you can imagine that I was extra excited when I read the book. I have created lesson to go along with the book. I love it!!!! I would love to know if Janice N Harrington has a website of her own. Thanks for an awesome book.

I love that Chicken Queen book more every time I read it. The language and the story - both priceless. It is so much fun to read out loud in the library! What a joyful noise! I SO look forward to more books from Ms. Harrington.
