I work in a dropout prevention school, and the students (largely non-readers) love Walter Dean Myers' books. Monster, in particular, is a huge favorite- so many of the students see themselves in Steve Harmon.

Mr. Myers has written so many wonderful books. My favorite book is Brown Angels, a book of poetry inspired by and illustrated with photographs of children taken around the turn of the last century. I am a children's librarian and will often suggest this book when people are looking for poetry for children, or when teachers are looking for ideas for creative writing jump-offs.
